Health insurance for mature students in Spain

Mature students over 30 may still be able to arrange Student Visa health insurance, but age is important. Most student-specific health insurance policies are available up to age 35. If you are over 35, we can help you review general visa-suitable private health insurance options for Spain instead, usually arranged as a 12-month renewable policy, depending on applicant details and eligibility. This is especially important for mature language students, postgraduate students and people returning to study later in life. See the student over-30 and over-35 pages.

By age

Student-specific up to 35, then visa-suitable

Students aged 30 to 34 can usually still access student-specific policies, which align with the Student Visa requirements. At and after age 35, a general visa-suitable private policy is usually the route instead of a student-specific one — see students over 35. This applies to mature university students, postgraduate students, and mature language students alike. We don't imply student-specific policies are normally available over 35; the over-35 route is the general visa-suitable 12-month renewable policy, subject to eligibility.

Certificate, no-copay and older applicants

Whichever route applies, the policy should match the course dates and provide a certificate supporting the application, plus no-copay wording and proof of payment where requested. Applicants over 60 can usually request general visa-suitable options subject to eligibility, with pricing rising with age; we do not work with insurers offering new policies for applicants over 75. A common mistake is leaving cover late when an over-35 policy takes longer to arrange.
