Health insurance for DNV renewal

Digital Nomad Visa renewal applicants should check whether their current healthcare evidence still supports the renewal file. This may involve updated private health insurance documents, employer cover evidence, social security or public healthcare evidence, or new certificates for dependants. If private insurance is needed or you want to change policy, check the dates before the renewal deadline. See the main DNV renewal page.

What to check

Status changes, dependants and dates

Renewal is a good time to check what's changed. If your worker status moved between employee, freelancer or company owner, or your employer cover changed, the healthcare route may need updating — where employer cover no longer applies, private health insurance is often used. Dependants usually need current evidence too, which may mean updated certificates covering the new period. Check your current private policy's expiry against the renewal deadline.

Updated certificate, payment proof and switching

You usually need an updated certificate covering the new period, and some renewals also want proof of payment. If your policy expects no copayments, keep that wording. You can also change policy before renewal — align the new start date with the old expiry to avoid a gap. Older applicants should check options early; we do not work with insurers offering new policies over 75. A common mistake is letting cover lapse before the renewal is filed.

Renewal applications usually still need healthcare evidence. Whether this is private insurance, employer cover or a public route depends on your circumstances at renewal.

Can I use the same policy as my first application?+

You may be able to continue the same policy if it still covers the new period and meets the requirements. Check the expiry date and certificate before the renewal deadline.

What if my employer cover changed?+

If your employer cover changed, the renewal evidence may need updating. Where employer cover no longer applies, private health insurance is often used instead.

What if my worker status changed?+

If you moved between employee, freelancer or company owner status, the healthcare route may change too. Check what evidence the renewal now needs.

Do dependants need updated certificates?+

Dependants usually need current healthcare evidence for the renewal, which may mean updated certificates covering the new period.

Can I change private insurance before renewal?+

Yes, some applicants change policy before renewing. Align the new start date with the old policy's expiry so there is no gap in cover.

What if I am over 75?+

We do not currently work with insurers offering new private visa-suitable policies for applicants over 75. Over-75 applicants may need to keep existing cover or explore public healthcare access and specialist residency advice.
